Wessex Water are urging people who use the A36 Lower Bristol Road at the junction with Brougham Hayes to leave more time for their journey after a major water main burst this morning.

They are currently carrying out emergency repair work  on the water main affected, with tailbacks spread out across the city as people try to get home this afternoon.

The existing traffic lights at the junction have been turned off so temporary traffic lights can be used to allow for the urgent repairs to take place.

It is expected it will take most of the day to repair the water main and then resurface the road, returning it to a safe condition.

Wessex Water have said that though no customers were without water following the burst, some may experience a water supply interruption for a short while later this afternoon.
