Residents Say Development Is Enough

Residents living in Wellow Tyning in Peasedown St John say they have had enough of their current living environment due to inconsiderate housing development works.

Developer David Wilson Homes are currently building 95 houses in the village following years of public objection and opposition. Despite liaising with the developer, and attending a public meeting, residents say ‘enough is enough’ when it comes to noise, debris on the road and inconsiderate parking.

Local resident Jenny Reynolds said: “We shouldn’t have to put up with this. Everyday there is constant noise and endless problems with access – some days we can’t even get into our own homes due to the amount of work lorries.”

Earlier in the year, Mrs Reynolds agreed to be one of two community spokespersons who would liaise with the housing developer on behalf of residents. She said: “After the public meeting in January which Cllr Hartley organised everything was going so well. There were good lines of communication, but now things have broken down. Every week I am raising concerns with the site manager, which aren’t being addressed.”

Calls are now being made for the housing developer to adhere to one of the promises made at January’s public meeting, where more than 50 people attended, and send an information letter to local households.

Chairman of Peasedown Parish Council’s Planning Committee, Karen Walker added: “Large housing developments are always concerning to those living nearby. For a long period of time residents have to put up with noise, mess, and extra vehicles using residential roads.

The best way forward now is for David Wilson Homes to stick to one of the agreements made at our meeting and send newsletters to residents in Wellow Lane, Tyning Road, Wellow Tyning, Wellow Mead and Braysdown Lane. It’s only when this happens that people will feel more aware of what’s happening and how they can complain if they need to.”

The development works are due for completion towards the end of 2013.
