Organisers of the combined fireworks display, which took place in November at the Recreation Ground, Bath, have revealed that, thanks to the generosity of the people of Bath, a total of £37,900 was raised at the event.
The display, sponsored by Bath Building Society and First Bus, attracted over 10,000 visitors who enjoyed a spectacular night.
The Emergency Department of the Royal United Hospital was nominated the headline beneficiary by the organisers; the Rotary Club of Bath and the University of Bath Students’ Union RAG (Raise and Give). £20,000 of the money raised will be spent on 24 much needed life-saving Welch Allyn 300 Patient Vital Signs Monitors which will be installed in the patient cubicles in the hospital’s Majors area. Other local charities will also benefit from the money raised at the event.
Ian Hasell, Operations Officer for the Emergency Department at the Royal United Hospital comments: “This donation is wonderful. These Patient Vital Signs Monitors are going to be an immense help to the nursing and medical staff. We require more monitors so that at a time when our patient numbers are up, we are able to treat them efficiently. The funding available for the routine replacement of obsolete equipment is limited and so we are tremendously grateful to those that contributed to this donation.”
Alan Keeling, Chairman of the Fireworks Committee at the Rotary Club of Bath says: “We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the visitors and took great delight in letting the RUH Emergency Department know how much we were able to give them thanks to the kind contributions.”
Hanna Wade, student representative from RAG at the University of Bath Students’ Union adds: “We are so pleased to have contributed to the provision of the monitors which will be able to enhance the hospital’s ability to deliver care to the people of Bath.”
Jonathan Cook, Community and Retail Operations Manager at the Bath Building Society stated: “Knowing that the donations from everyone will directly impact on the smooth running of such an important and worthy service is fantastic. Huge thanks go to all of those that attended the display back in November.”
The Recreation Ground has been booked for Saturday 3rd November this year in anticipation of another successful event.
