The Friday night before Christmas is often dubbed ‘Black Friday’ and it’s frequently one of the busiest nights of the year for emergency services with thousands of revellers hitting the town for Christmas parties. This year, you’ll be able to follow through the eyes of the police.

This evening, Avon and Somerset Police will be providing a live on-line news feed with photos to give a behind-the-scenes look at what they do to keep the party-goers safe over the Christmas period.

People will be able to log on to the Avon and Somerset Police website between 6pm and 12am on Friday 21 December and follow the action as officers hit the streets to arrest criminals and keep people safe.

The live news stream is part of our ‘Have The Christmas You Deserve’ campaign and is designed to give people an insight into what police officers are doing this festive season to keep people safe, as well as highlighting the issues they encounter to help protect people from becoming victims.

Chief Superintendent Jon Stratford said: “As well as enforcing the law and protecting the public, part of our job is to let people know what we’re doing to keep them safe and tackle any issues where they live. The live news stream on Friday will let people get a behind-the-scenes look at how we police the streets during one of the busiest nights of the year.

“Police staff will be out and about with officers to provide updates on their activities and we hope people will visit our website on Friday night to join in the conversation and have a look at what we are dealing with on what’s expected to be one of the busiest nights of the year.

This year, police have also released a You Tube video called ‘Don’t have a Nightmare this Christmas’ with the NHS and the licensees of one of Bristol’s busiest bars. The 2 minute video encourages people to drink responsibility and warns them about the possible consequences of getting out of control at your Christmas party http://youtu.be/pJtu-8Hk4u8

Hard-hitting adverts about burglary, drink driving, domestic abuse and excessive drinking are available on their website www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/christmas

If you want to follow the live news feed or just get advice and information on how to keep yourself safe this Christmas visit their website here http://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/christmas or view the feed below.
