Avon and Somerset Police in Bath are advising people not to accept offers of computer technical support made by unsolicited telephone callers.

There have been a number of cases in the Lambridge, Walcot and and Lansdown areas where people have been rung by men with an Asian accent warning that their computer has been infected by a virus, and that they can help for a fee.

One man from Fairfield Park reported the matter to police, and inquiries have shown that there have been numerous similar incidents across the country.

Beat manager PC Martin Holliwell said that if people are cold-called, they should not divulge any personal details or information and should end the call immediately.

If you are contacted, ring the police on 101 and report the matter.
