Police will be on patrol around Bath Racecourse this weekend to remind dog walkers to keep their pets under control as the lambing season begins.
It follows three reports of sheep worrying in fields adjacent to the racecourse, which have left ewes injured.
The manager of Church Farm in North Stoke is concerned that dog attacks could lead to some of his sheep miscarrying.
He has put up warning signs asking people to keep their dogs on leads near his flocks.
Bath police Sergeant Chris Clarke said: “This is advice that applies to anyone across Avon and Somerset walking their dog in the countryside, particularly at this time and particularly as the forecast is good for this weekend.
“Farmers are within their rights to take action if their livestock is under threat, and we are keen to make sure that dog owners know their responsibilities.“
