An exhibition of photos capturing the magical bond shared by fathers and their children goes on display at Bath’s Central Library, from Monday 11th to Saturday 16th March, as part of a Celebrating Fatherhood campaign.
The Celebrating Fatherhood Photographic exhibition is a collection of images of local fathers and male carers with their children, taken at group events around Bath and North East Somerset. The photos depict their special relationship and how they enjoy their time together. Each picture tells its own story.
The exhibition presents the work of five aspiring photographers studying at Bath Spa University who have been given the opportunity to showcase their skills. The exhibition will feature images chosen for the way they capture the essence of enjoyment and affection that children receive from spending time with their fathers and male carers.
Councillor Dine Romero (Lib-Dem, Southdown), Cabinet Member for Early Years, Children and Youth, said: “Fathers, and other male role models, have such an important role to play in helping to ensure that children enjoy their childhood and are prepared for adult life.
“Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Celebrating Fatherhood campaign supports them to do this, and the photographic exhibition is a wonderful way to recognise their importance in their children’s lives. We’re also pleased to showcase the artistry of some up-and-coming photographers from Bath Spa University. They have produced some truly heart-warming and inspirational images on show and I’d encourage everyone to take a look.”
A selection of the photographs will also be published during the exhibition via the Council’s Twitter feed @bathnes and on Facebook at the “Bathnes Libraries”, “Somer Valley Children’s Centres” and “Bath and North East Somerset Family Information Service” pages.
After the exhibition the Celebrating Fatherhood photographs taken by Bath Spa University students Oliver Merchant, Saskia Rumbelow, Amee Hole, James Callison and Matt Dear will be put on display in Bath & North East Somerset Council’s 11 Children’s Centres across the district.
The Celebrating Fatherhood campaign is about recognising the importance of fathers and male carers in children’s lives. A number of local organisations have come together to support this campaign across Bath and North East Somerset, and it is being sponsored by the Local Safeguarding Children Board. The campaign, launched in April 2012, involves raising awareness of the support available to fathers and their families provided through Bath & North East Somerset Council, local health service providers, schools and voluntary organisations.
