A young woman from Bath has died on the M4 westbound this morning after an incident which led to her being hit by several vehicles.

Avon and Somerset Police say the victim was initially in a collision with another vehicle on the motorway. Following that incident, the woman got out of the Volkswagon Polo car she was in and was then hit by a number of other vehicles travelling westbound.

Accident investigation teams were on scene investigating the incident, which happened at just before 1.30am this morning.

The slip road and the westbound carriageway of the M4 between junction 18 and junction 19 were closed until 12.30pm on Sunday as the scene was investigated.

Police have said the incident happened near to where the M4 joins the M32.

They are keen to hear from anyone driving in the area at this time, in particular anyone who saw a vehicle lose control and leave the carriageway.

Please contact the collision investigation unit on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
