Emergency services were called just after 6pm on Thursday to reports that a man had been hit by a train at Oldfield Park station.
The British Transport Police and Avon & Somerset Police officers attended the railway line and trains throughout the area were halted.
Paramedics also attended and located the body of a man, believed to be in his 30s and from Bath, at the scene.
The incident, which was reported to the British Transport Police at 6.02pm, is being treated as non-suspicious.
Trains between Bath and Bristol were delayed or on-hold while the incident progressed.
Officers are currently working to confirm the identity of the man and inform his family. A file will be prepared by the police for the Coroner.
Network Rail teams and the British Transport Police liaised at the station before lines were handed back in control of the rail network at 7.18pm.
