An article written by a local Vicar for an online Christian website has gone global, with interest being attracted from as far as India.

Revd Matthew Street, who leads the group of Anglican churches in Peasedown St John, Wellow, Foxcote and Shoscombe known as the ‘St J’s Group’, was invited to write an article for Bible Reflections – an online resource for Christians.

It’s an opportunity for church leaders to explain what they are currently preaching on, why their subject is so significant, and why they find it so exciting, Matthew Street explored the subject ‘Numbers of Significance’.

In his article, he considered why certain numbers appeared with remarkable frequency in the bible, and asks whether it is random, coincidence, or whether they could reveal a new depth and meaning.

Matthew Street says: “Whilst preparing for an annual sermons series my curiosity was aroused to dig deeper. As I dug, it became clear that similar numbers reappeared in similar contexts. Further study soon revealed that numbers in the bible appear anything but randomly. Suddenly a whole level of biblical understanding began to reveal itself, a bit like peeling an onion, to expose yet another layer of truth that hitherto I had not noticed.“

The bible is incredibly important for Christians, and many regard it as the only infallible and authoritative revelation of God. The words contained within the bible provide the fundamentals to the Christian faith, and for this reason much discussion and debate has arisen over its interpretation.

Joel Mennie, who heads up the Bible Reflections organisation says: “In the short time that the resources Matthew Street submitted to Bible Reflections have been live, a lot of interested has been generated. We have even been approached by a printed and online magazine in India for rights to republish the original article.”

The Bible Reflections website (www.bible-reflections.net) seeks to present a wide range of resources and opinions that encourage people to read and consider the bible, and to apply the words found across its pages to their lives. It is accessed by thousands of people in nearly every country across world.
