Peasedown St John could be the next place to brighten up with flowers and floral displays as part of a display competition that already runs each year.
Community group Peasedown 1st would like to see the village entered into future ‘Bath in Bloom’ competitions where teams can compete for prizes in recognition for how colourful their community looks.
Group member Tracy Ashman, who lives in Adams Close, said: “It’s always nice to see towns and villages brighten up every year whenever there is an In Bloom event happening. Volunteers are able to come together to show off their skills and talents when it comes to planting and display preparation.”
The Bath in Bloom competition is open to all residents, businesses, schools, institutions or community groups in Bath and North East Somerset, and is a good way to encourage the community to take a pride in our area, making it attractive with flowers, landscaping or an environmental project.
Peasedown 1st’s Becci McCafferty added: “There is a lot already happening in Peasedown St John along similar lines. Our Parish Council will be looking at what more can be done to invest in floral decorations this year, and the small woodland planted by volunteers in 2008 at the bottom of Peasedown will be given a makeover in the summer.”
Peasedown is already home to a collection of well-kept and attractive allotments in Braysdown. Since May 2011, the waiting list for plots has reduced from 40 to 6 people by the Parish Council increasing the number of plots and working closely with allotment holders.
Kenny Torr, who will be standing alongside Becci and Tracy as a candidate in the local by-election on 11th April, said: “A new independent Allotment Holders Committee will be elected in May to give a strong voice to those with plots. The Parish Council will be working alongside them to ensure they receive the support, advice and guidance they need.”
