With just seven weeks to go until Peasedown St John’s biggest annual event, the organisers of the local Party in the Park have received a £1,000 grant.

The donation was provided by Bath and North East Somerset Council to help cover the costs of this year’s festival which hopes to attract up to 3,000 people.

Cllr Sarah Bevan, one of the authority’s representatives in the village, secured the grant through her Initiative Fund – which is allocated to B&NES councillors each year so they can support local projects and initiatives.

Sarah said: “This is our 5th annual Party in the Park in Peasedown St John, and each year they get bigger and better. The organisers always put on a celebration that includes something for everyone, whether it’s live music, hot food and drink, or fun for young children.

“After last year’s Jubilee event the highly anticipated ‘Midsummer’ party is something we are all looking forward to.”

The funding will contribute towards the total of £7,000 needed to cover the costs of the one-day spectacular.

Jo Davis, who heads up the festival’s volunteer team, says there are a lot of necessary costs that always need to be covered:

“Due to the size and popularity of our events lots of people want to come and take part. We always work very closely with the Responsible Authorities such as Fire and Rescue, Avon and Somerset Police, B&NES Council’s Environmental Health department and the events team to ensure festival attendees are happy and safe at the same time.

“We need funding to pay for our Public Liability Insurance, an annual Premises License renewal and to hire trained security staff.”

Cllr Sarah Bevan will be attending the event as a volunteer and has been invited to announce one of the afternoon performances on stage.

Sponsored by B&NES Council, Midsummer Party in the Park 2013 will be held on Beacon Field on Saturday 22nd June from 12 noon – 7 pm.

Plans include seven hours of live music including performances from the Mangledwurzels and children from Peasedown Primary to celebrate the school’s centenary, the return of the ‘Peasedown Diamond’ cider, a Farmers’ Market, the Sara Holley Community Award, Somer Valley FM broadcasting live, and several special-guest hosts.

For more details follow the event on Twitter: @peasedownpitp or visit www.peasedownpartyinthepark.org.uk.

The event’s ‘Midsummer’ theme will see a return to the 1960’s for one day. Festival attendees are invited to dress accordingly.
