Dog walkers and families with young children can now use a footpath in Peasedown St John with peace of mind.
The well used footpath that connects Wellow Lane with the busy A367 by-pass has been left open and dangerous for children following the removal of the stile a few years ago.
Now, thanks to B&NES Councillor Nathan Hartley (Lib Dem, Peasedown) funding has been allocated to build a brand new gate and fence. He said: “Concerns about this footpath initially came to me earlier this year when a resident raised the issue at one of my Advice Surgeries.
“The footpath is used by hundreds of walkers every week and leads out onto the busy A367 by-pass, which people need to cross to reach the countryside and lakes that surround the village.”
Cllr Hartley is pictured with his God Daughter Elway Abolins-Farrell, who will be celebrating her first birthday in August. He added; “Parents have had to be extra cautious with their children when using this path. Left open for many years, there was no hazard warning that a busy A road was nearby. When Elway starts to walk in the near future I’ll feel much happier using this route for country walks.”
The gate and fence was erected by B&NES Council’s Public Rights of Way Team. Cllr Sarah Bevan (Lib Dem, Peasedown) praised the work of the staff; “We have a fantastic Public Rights of Way Team at the council who always go out of their way to respond to requests from councillors and members of the public. In particular, Sheila Petherbridge who has spent many hours in Peasedown working on issues with Cllr Hartley and me.”
