A work placement in the accounts department of Jamie’s Italian restaurant in Bath is adding up to a tasty experience for one City of Bath College student.
Business and Management student Ollie Hunt started the one day a week placement after Jamie’s approached the College looking for a student to help in their accounts department.
Ollie quickly snapped up the chance to work in the company’s Gay Street offices and said he has enjoyed the experience.
“It’s helped me to get some really good experience of working in an office environment,” said the 17 year old.
“Maths is probably my strongest subject and accountancy is something that I’m definitely interested in, so the work placement has been perfect for me.
“I have been getting used to working with a purchase ledger, invoices and credit notes, as well as helping out around the office with general administration work.
“It’s been really valuable experience and something that I’ll be able to take with me when I begin to look for work.”
Ollie said he was hoping to begin an accountancy apprenticeship to help him get him get a foot on the career ladder.
“I think an apprenticeship would be ideal for me,” he said. “It’ll mean I can continue to learn while I’m working and getting paid and will give me even more accountancy experience.”
Despite working at Jamie’s, Ollie said he had yet to meet the celebrity chef himself.
“Unfortunately I haven’t had the chance to meet Jamie, but I’m always hoping he might walk through the office door!” said Ollie.
