The Student Community Partnership (SCP), which includes the Council, is to host a Family Fun Day at Oldfield Park Baptist Church on Saturday 13th April between 12pm and 3pm.
The SCP, which also includes the University of Bath, Bath Spa University and their Students’ Unions, hopes that the event will help students to get to know other local residents, as they give something back to their community.
Councillor Will Sandry, Chair of Student Community Partnership, said: “In recent years, students in Bath & North East Somerset have played a significant and growing role in the local community and the Student Community Partnership aims to encourage a good relationship between students and members of the local community.”
The event, for which entry is free, will include a number of performances, a children’s bouncy castle and badge-making, as well as stalls from local businesses and councillors, and the chance to support the Chairman of Bath’s Organ Donor Campaign.
Meanwhile the University of Bath Students’ Union Media groups will host workshops for children to be reporters and DJs for the afternoon alongside other performances from University of Bath students.
Hanna Wade, Students’ Union Community Officer at the University of Bath said, “Students really value the opportunity to give something back to the community that they are living in and the Fun Day will be a fantastic opportunity for all people in the community to come together and have a good time.’
In addition, a raffle with prizes donated by Giraffe, Bath Spa Live and the Theatre Royal Bath will take place. Proceeds will go to Bath Foodbank, who will have a stand on the day and are welcoming any donations of non-perishable goods. Information on the types of food they take can be found here: http://bath.foodbank.org.uk
There will also be an Oldfield Park Bake Off competition, with two categories; under 12 years and over 12 years. Those who wish to enter are asked to deliver their cakes ready for the judging by 12:30pm and prizes will be presented at around 1pm.
Emma Weskin Vice-President of Welfare at Bath Spa University Students’ Union said: “The Fun Day will be a great chance for local people to get together, have fun and celebrate. It’s also a chance for us to show what a great and positive impact students have as part of a lovely community here in Bath.”
