Visitors to the world-famous Roman Baths can now finish off their visit with a free taste of its spa water thanks to a new fountain.
Previously, a glass of spa water could only be purchased from the Pump Room restaurant next door, but visitors can now enjoy a free sample in the Roman Baths.
The glistening new water fountain has been installed in the West Baths and is surrounded by quotations giving revealing and often amusing opinions on the properties of the famous spa water.
Stephen Clews, Manager of the Roman Baths, said: “The new water fountain is going down a treat. Lots of our visitors are enjoying the opportunity to try the water straight from source and find it the perfect way to round off their visit.”
Councillor Cherry Beath (Lib-Dem, Combe Down), Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development, said: “Bath & North East Somerset Council is committed to keeping the Roman Baths a favourite among visitors by making improvements such as the West Baths water fountain.
“We have delivered modern interpretation, helping people to imagine life in Roman Bath; carried out conservation to improve the look of the monument and protect it for future generations, and installed a wide range of access measures including new lifts and inclusive interpretation – all aimed towards enhancing the visitor experience.”
