The City of Bath College has launched a new residential course in glass techniques after one of the region’s most popular glass design courses was forced to close.
The new College course aims to fill the gap left by the popular glass residential course that was run at Urchfont Manor, near Devizes, but which ended following Wiltshire Council’s decision to sell the property.
The course, which is the College’s first residential programme, will take place at the City of Bath College’s Avon Street campus from midday Wednesday 7th November to midday Friday 9th November.
Students attending the course will learn a range of traditional and contemporary skills including kiln formed glass techniques in the fully equipped studio.
The course will be led by the College’s respected glass lecturer Meryl Stannard, who also taught at Urchfont Manor.
Meryl said: “Students would travel from all over Britain to attend the courses at Urchfont and everyone was very sad to hear that this well-loved institution was closing its doors. This new College course aims to fill that gap and to offer the intensive teaching experience that students so enjoyed. The residential aspect of the course is also important; it creates such a relaxed, friendly atmosphere for working, where people have time to make new friends and gain inspiration from each other.“
“I’m delighted that the College has launched this residential course and there has already been an enthusiastic response for this first session.”
The course costs £198 per person (single occupancy) or £178 per person (double) and this includes tuition, accommodation, lunch and a dinner.
Students will be staying in bed and breakfast accommodation or self contained flats in Bath.
