Rubric, a growing commercial solicitors chambers based in Bath, has appointed a new lawyer.
Dr Philip Griffiths, who previously worked for Bristol firm Bevan Ashford (which has now demerged into Bevan Brittan and Ashfords) has joined from the niche Bath law firm, Alderwicks.
Dr Griffiths brings heavyweight expertise in all the core areas of corporate and commercial work, as well as nearly 20 years experience advising a wide range of clients from SMEs and the University of Bath to Government agencies.
Rubric offers City quality advice to SMEs and growing businesses via a streamlined business model based on technology and outsourced functions. Rubric also shuns the traditional law firm hierarchy in favour of a team of senior lawyers who can work flexibly.
Dr Griffiths said: “This new role allows me to focus on what I enjoy most about practising law: doing challenging work, understanding clients businesses and being their adviser as well as their lawyer.”
Employment partner James Howell said that Rubric operates like a barristers chambers, with a group of senior, multi-specialist lawyers pooling their resources, as opposed to the traditional pyramid structured law firm.
By removing many of the overheads which make traditional law firms expensive and using technology and outsourced functions instead, they are able to offer lower and more flexible fee structures which are vital at a time when many businesses are looking carefully at their costs.
