Local people are encouraged to get involved and volunteer with Bath Green Homes; a project jointly organised by Transition Bath, Bath Preservation Trust and the Council.

The project includes a programme of events throughout March and April, including the Green Living Fair at Green Park Station on Sunday 24th March 2013, and the annual Open Homes Weekend on 13th & 14th April which showcases energy efficient homes around Bath.

Volunteer Coordinator Fiona Williams said “There are lots of ways that volunteers can get involved; from being stewards in peoples’ homes, helping with promotion and publicity, taking photos, creating short films, and helping organise events. We also offer training and support to help volunteers understand more about home energy efficiency.”

Councillor Paul Crossley (Lib-Dem, Southdown), Leader of Council, said, “Bath Green Homes was incredibly popular last year giving people the opportunity to see how they could make their homes more energy efficient, saving both money and reduce carbon emissions. Only through people coming forward and volunteering for a variety of roles can this success be repeated again. The Council and its partners greatly appreciate the help people are willing to give.”

There is also still time to get involved if you are interested in opening your energy efficient home to the public. Home Openers are given full support, including a home visit by the co-ordinator, a pack containing all the information and materials you need, an opportunity to meet other home openers, and volunteer stewards to help on the day. Following their experience of last years’ event, John and Pat Toplis are happy to open their Georgian grade II listed home again.

Over the years they have made their home warmer and more efficient by installing secondary glazing, draught proofing and solar pv panels on the inner slope of their roof.  If you are interested in taking part, visit the Open Homes page on the website to find out more and fill in the expression of interest form, the closing date is 4th February.

To find out more information about the project, volunteering or opening your home to the public, visit the website www.bathgreenhomes.co.uk or call 01225 477528

If you are inspired to make your home more energy efficient then there are new support and finance options available.  These can help you install energy efficiency measures in your home – whether you own your own home or whether you rent it. People can free phone the Home Energy Advice Line on 0800 082 2234 for advice about these and other energy saving opportunities that are available now.
