Improvements being carried out by the Council will make it more simple and convenient for people to purchase parking permits in the future.

From 11th March 2013, anybody purchasing a parking permit of any type will have a new digital system to access.

The key benefits are:

  • Permits can be purchased online as a self-service transaction, although a full range of ways to purchase remain, e.g. telephone;
  • The new system is able to automatically authorise and activate the permit to be used immediately, rather than separately obtaining authorisation;
  • For visitors permits, these can also be virtual meaning there is no longer the need to display a card in the vehicle – number plate recognition technology will be used by the Council;
  • Anyone using their phone service will no longer be charged premium rate numbers – these will be a local rate and included in free minutes/ texts.

Councillor Roger Symonds (Lib-Dem, Combe Down), Cabinet Member for Transport, said, “The process for purchasing a wide range of parking permits will be much more convenient from March 2013 with our new online system. Bath & North East Somerset Council is making as many services as possible accessible digitally to improve convenience and cut bureaucracy in the organisation. The other ways of making a purchase will remain.

“We have put details about what these improvements mean for anyone who uses a permit on our website.”

Information, including an extensive list of Frequently Asked Questions, is available at www.bathnes.gov.uk/parkingpermit

An evening drop-in session at the Manvers Street One Stop Shop, Bath will take place on Thursday 7th March 2013 between 5pm and 9pm and is open to all members of the public. People can also call 01225 477133 or 477134 or email [email protected].
