New Cycling Opportunities For Locals

To celebrate the opening of the new 1.5km cycling circuit at Odd Down, the Council has been working hard with local cycle clubs to develop cycling opportunities for everyone.

From pre-school to over 50s – from seasoned cyclist to novice – there is something to whet your appetite.

Sessions on offer will start at the end of May and will be from as little as £1 per person for families and pre-school children, to £3 for cycle fit and women’s only taster sessions.

The first family session will take place on Bank Holiday Monday 27th May from 12noon-5pm, costing £1 per person.

Wheels for All will also be offering the opportunity to try their selection of specially adapted bicycles, trikes and hand bikes for children and adults with disabilities and differing needs.

One of the most exciting developments for the Circuit is the formation of the Sulis Scorpions Youth Cycling Alliance, which brings together the three cycling clubs of Bath CC, VC Walcot and Somer Valley CC, to introduce children and young people, aged 7 to 16, to cycling – initially through taster sessions.

These taster sessions will run on Thursdays from 5pm to 6pm and Saturdays from 9am to 10am.

Councillor David Dixon (Lib-Dem, Oldfield), Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “We’re keen to ensure that Odd Down Cycle Circuit offers opportunities for everyone of all abilities, so that they can enjoy cycling in a safe and organised fashion.

“Bath & North East Somerset Council, in partnership with the local cycling clubs, is using this first season of opening to introduce new sessions, listen to the views of the users and respond as resources allow. I’m delighted that we are already able to provide a range of cycling opportunities – from sessions for pre-school children right up to the more experienced cyclists who wish to use the circuit for their own personal training.”

As well as the sessions mentioned above each of the cycling clubs will be running open sessions, where they are actively encouraging everyone, including non-members, to come along and try out the circuit.

Full details of the sessions at Odd Down Cycle Circuit can be found at www.bathnes.gov.uk/cyclecircuit.
