New Cider To Launch At Jubilee Festival

An exclusively new cider will be launched at this year’s Jubilee Party in the Park in Peasedown St John.

After several months of meetings with Radstock-based Chris Lilley of Lilley’s Cider Barn, who approached the organisers of the festival to offer their support last year, the summer festival committee can finally reveal full details of the exciting project.

Jubilee Party in the Park Committee member, and Parish Councillor Jo Davis, is coordinating the initiative. She said: “We wanted to add that extra bit of excitement to this year’s event, and do something special for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and we want to make sure that Peasedown takes a leading role in this historic occasion.”

Called ‘Peasedown Diamond’, the new cider will be available for purchase on Monday 4th June on Beacon Field from the festival’s beer tent – run by publican Simon Sandall from the Red Post Inn.

The name was chosen by local resident Melanie Oatley-Evans as part of a village-wide competition in the spring. As a result, Melanie will have the first taste of the new brew just after 12 noon at Jubilee Party in the Park.

Jo added: “Congratulations to Melanie who gave us the idea of calling it Peasedown Diamond. The name fits well with the flavour – which is a mix of other ciders produced by Chris Lilley that has given it a refreshing clear taste.”

The label design for the keg and bottles has been created by Craig Gill, the festival’s Web and Literature Designer. He said: “Peasedown Diamond’s label ensures this drink stays in touch with its roots. The design includes a view of Peasedown’s countryside, a crown and the year all within a beer mat style effect.”

If the new cider proves to be popular, organisers will look to make the drink available after the festival.
