A new Chairman for Bath & North East Somerset Council has been selected. Councillor Rob Appleyard will represent the authority at local events and chair Council meetings during 2012/13.

The Chairman has selected the B&NES Care Centre, Julian House, and the RUH, Bath as his three chosen charities in 2012/13.

Councillor Appleyard, who has been a ward councillor for Westfield since 2007, said, “I’m looking forward to recognising the positive impact that people have in communities and how Council supports the enrichment of their lives. I look forward to meeting as many people as possible over the coming twelve months during what will be an exciting period with the Olympics and Queens Jubilee being celebrated locally.”

The Chairman’s Theme for his year in office is “People Matter” and he welcomes invitations to the variety of events relating to his theme. The Chairman’s main fundraising event, amongst others, will be the Chairman’s Charity Ball in March 2013. He sees the raising of the awareness of the three Charities as equally important.

Councillor Neil Butters was elected as Vice-Chairman of Council. He has been a Councillor since 2007 for Bathavon South.

The Chairman welcomes invitations to visit local charities and community groups throughout the Bath and North East Somerset Council area. If you would like to invite the Chairman of Bath & North East Somerset Council to attend an event contact Paula Bartlett, the Civic Secretary, who arranges the Chairman’s diary on 01225 394235 or email [email protected] or visit http://www.bathnes.gov.uk/chairsoffice where people can also find a short biography of the Chairman and Vice-Chairman.
