A new grit bin was installed in a large residential estate in Peasedown St John, just in time for the heavy snowfall last weekend.
Residents living in Albert Avenue had asked their local Lib Dems for a bin following a number of slips and falls by older members of the community.
Local campaigner Karen Walker said: “People living in Albert Avenue had asked for some time for better provisions to be put in place to address icy conditions during the winter.”
“The estate is one of our largest in the village, and has a high proportion of elderly people living there – who find it extra difficult getting around when it’s cold and icy.”
The local Lib Dems passed the request onto Curo Housing Group who were able to put the grit bin in place last week.
Karen is pictured with resident Roy Williams, who said he was delighted with the new feature.
The bin has been located on the path connecting Albert Avenue with Bath Road, and leads to more than 200 homes.
Local B&NES Councillor Nathan Hartley (Lib Dem, Peasedown) added: “This investment in our community from Curo Housing is welcomed. At a time when councils are having to cut their budgets, it’s pleasing to see third parties make the investment that is needed.”
“Many residents have raised this with Karen and I several times over the last year, which is why we are so delighted to see the new grit bin in place.”
