A 66-year-old man was trampled to death by a herd of cows while he was walking his dog with his brother near Winsley yesterday.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 12.30pm to reports of the men being trampled.
The ambulance service sent a land ambulance as well as both the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Great Western Air Ambulance to the field.
The brother, in his early 70s, has been seriously injured and remains critically ill in the major trauma centre of Frenchay hospital in Bristol. He is suspected to have a collapsed lung and broken ribs.
Teams from the air ambulances worked on both men at the scene but the 66-year-old was pronounced dead.
It is not yet known what caused the cows to trample the men.
