A man has died after he was hit by a car travelling down the New Bath Road on the way into Radstock early this morning.

The incident happened at 4.20am and the road remained closed until the afternoon as Avon and Somerset Police investigate the scene.

The pedestrian was reported to have been in collision with a vehicle travelling along the road. It is believed that the pedestrian was lying in the road and was hit by the vehicle travelling along the road.

Great Western Ambulance Service attended the scene but said sadly the man was pronounced dead upon their arrival.

The identity of the man has not yet been concluded. A description of his clothing has been released through a police appeal. He has been described as a white man, of medium build, between 5ft 8ins and 5ft 10ins tall. He was wearing a navy blue coloured shirt which contained red and white dots, jeans and smart black shoes.

The death is being treated as unexplained.

Anyone who may have seen the incident, or have information regarding it, is asked to contact Avon and Somerset Police on 101.
