Three people were lucky to escape without injury after a fire started in the utility room of their home on Thursday evening. Three fire engines from Bath’s fire station attended the incident after smoke and flames were seen in the single storey room which linked the main house to an external garage.
After the initial 999 call at 20.59pm, the house on Richmond Road in Lansdown was entered by four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus who tackled the fire using a high pressure hose reel, while a covering jet was also used to control the flames.
Although the fire caused extensive damage to the utility room, crews were able to bring the fire under control and stopped it spreading to the main house. During the course of the operation a thermal imaging camera was also used to ensure there were no hot spots.
After the fire was extinguished a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear smoke from the house. Three people were at home at the time of the fire, but all managed to escape without injury prior to the arrival of fire crews.
The fire is believed to have started accidentally in a tumble dryer.
