Lola’s ‘Pick Up Your Poo’ Campaign

A new campaign has been launched in Peasedown St John, with the help of a six year old girl.

Lola Callow, who attends Peasedown St John Primary School, has become so concerned about the amount of dog poo around her village that she’s designed a poster to target irresponsible dog owners.

Over the last seven days the Lola’s ‘Please pick up your poo’ campaign has become a craze on social media websites Facebook and Twitter – with residents displaying copies in their homes and car windows.

Lola’s mother Julie Walker said: “Lola designed the poster because she was fed up with having to dodge and jump over piles of poo on the way to and from school.
“Seeing piles of dog poo first thing in the morning does not smell or look very nice and made both of the children feel sick. On some occasions the poo was so bad that we were unable to dodge it and ended up with it on the wheels of the buggy, or we had to turn around and walk an alternate route making us late for school.”

After designing the poster Lola showed it to one of her B&NES Councillors Nathan Hartley, who decided to give his backing to the campaign. He said: “The best campaigns are often those started by ordinary every day people. What makes this campaign even more prominent is that it was triggered by a six year old girl who cares about her community and the environment.

“Lola has done a fantastic job designing the poster. I’d encourage anyone who agrees with her to downland a copy and display it in their windows at home or in their car.”

Residents all over Peasedown have joined the campaign from Wellow Tyning to Albert Avenue, and from Church Road to Russet Way. To download your copy of the poster visit www.peasedown1st.org.uk.

Lola’s mum Julie added: “Lola feels very strongly about the dog poo and litter in her village as she has learnt about the environment at school and is the Green Team leader for her year group – which means that she dedicates her lunch breaks to helping find ways to make the school environmental friendly.”

Lola hopes that by seeing her poster people will know how sad it makes her feel, and that dog walkers will think twice before walking away.
