A group in Peasedown St John set up last year to provide advice and support to women has received funding to hire the skills of a Life Coach.
Meeting weekly at Peasedown St John Youth and Children’s Centre, KARMA was established to provide opportunities for women who live locally.
Resident Joy Gosz has been active in the community for many years, and decided to set up KARMA with neighbours after recognising a need for such a support group to exist.
She said: “KARMA is a group that supports women when they need it. It’s been set up to make a difference, to show women that there are people out there who care. We specialise in providing help to those who experience domestic violence and abuse.”
The group has been providing members with opportunities to take part in training courses such as First Aid and cookery classes. They also host social events and day trips.
After a year of success and much needed support for women who need it the most, new funding has been secured from Bath and North East Somerset Council to hire a Life Coach who will run a number of classes on tackling low self-esteem and building confidence.
The grant of £500 has been given to the group thanks to Peasedown Councillor Nathan Hartley and his Ward Councillor’s Initiative Fund.
He commented: “KARMA is a group that helps so many women. We all go through times of feeling worthless, or that nobody cares about us. Depression and low self-esteem can hit us all when we least expect it.
“This is a group run by women who I have great respect and admiration for. They’ve come through a lot themselves and are now in a position to help others.”
Joy Gosz was the winner of last year’s Sara Holley Community Award at Party in the Park for her dedication to voluntary work over the last twenty years.
KARMA meets every Thursday morning at Peasedown Youth and Children’s Centre Centre and is open to all women. For more details contact Joy Gosz on 07895 572411.
KARMA stands for Karing and Reaching out to Motivate All Women, and was chosen to reflect the support the group provides.
