A new community fund to enable students in Bath to design and develop projects in the community that will enhance and promote positive relationships between the two Universities, the student population, and local residents has been launched by the Student Community Partnership (SCP).

The SCP, which includes Bath & North East Somerset Council, University of Bath, Bath Spa University, and their Student Unions see the initiative as a great opportunity for students and local residents to get to know each other and for students to give something back to the community which they are part of. Students can apply for up to £300 and the deadline is 30th November 2012.

Councillor Will Sandry, Chair of the SCP, said, “The new community fund will support an interesting range of projects to get students more closely involved in their local community, whether it be through painting a children’s play area or redecorating in a community building. The idea is that students can play their part in improving the communities in which they live.”

Emma Weskin, Bath Spa Students’ Union, said, “The fund is a great way for students to give something back to the community and for the community to see how willing students are to lend a hand and to make a difference.”

Hanna Wade, University of Bath Students’ Union Community Officer, “This is a fantastic chance for students to have a positive impact in the community and give something back to the city where they study. I am very excited to see the diverse range of projects which this fund will be able to support and it is great that the Student Community Partnership is able to provide this opportunity for our community.”
