Time is running out to nominate “grass roots” sporting heroes for a prestigious award from the Chairman of the Council, Councillor Rob Appleyard.
Now in their eighth year the Chairman’s Sport Awards recognise the achievements and dedication of local sports people, volunteers and coaches who are either residents or are active in sports in Bath and North East Somerset.
The deadline for nominations is 12 noon on Friday 25th Jan 2013.
New categories for this post-Olympic and Paralympic year include Contribution to Inclusive Sport in recognition of an individual or club/organisation that has made a significant contribution to inclusive sport; and Official of the Year in recognition of an official (referee or umpire) who has shown a great level of dedication and commitment to ensuring high standards and professionalism.
Chairman of the Council, Councillor Rob Appleyard said: “There’s still a little bit of time left to make your nomination for these awards which celebrate the marvellous achievements and dedication of our local sports people, volunteers and coaches.
“Bath & North East Somerset Council is committed to help everyone have the opportunity to participate in sports and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
“We hope that anyone who has been inspired by the devotion of others towards sporting activities in their community will put their name forward and give them the recognition that they deserve.”
Bath & North East Somerset Council supports sports at grass roots level such as Bath Judo Centre’s “beginner” sessions for the over-15s on Fridays, 6.30-8.30pm, using Sportivate funding.
Drawing upon the inspiration of last year’s Olympics and Paralympics, the Council hopes to see membership increase at a range of sporting clubs and organisations as demand rises for physical activities which offer health and wellbeing benefits.
