A false bomb scare escalated to full scale evacuation across the Student Union building at Bath Spa University this afternoon.

The University received an email advising of an explosive device in the Students’ Union building on their Newton Park campus from an un-named source.

The building was evacuated under the Uni’s emergency management procedures after which followed a search of the building. Avon and Somerset Police attended the scene and advised that is was safe to re-enter the building.

A Bath Spa University spokesperson said: “There have been a number of other similar bomb scares at universities across the UK in recent weeks and police are investigating this at a senior level.

“It is now ‘business as normal’ at Newton Park and there is full access to the campus and university buildings.”
