A member of staff at one of Bath’s garden centres was airlifted to hospital yesterday after an accident with a handsaw.
Emergency services were called to Prior Park Garden Centre in Widcombe just before 10am to reports that a colleague had injured their foot.
When paramedics arrived on scene, the injured worker was given painkillers and medical assistance before deciding it would be necessary for the critical care team from the Great Western Air Ambulance to get involved.
The helicopter, based at Filton, landed up in the grounds of Beechen Cliff School and the team transferred the member of staff by ambulance to the school before being taken to Frenchay hospital in Bristol for treatment.
The 27 year-old worker was installing a new shelving unit at the garden centre when he inadvertently sawed through a plank into his foot.
The injuries he received to his Achilles tendon are being treated in an operation this morning and he is expected to be in plaster for eight weeks.
