A new group that has been set up to provide advice and support to women has received a grant thanks to Bath and North East Somerset Council.
Meeting weekly at Peasedown St John Youth Centre, Karma was established to provide opportunities for women who live locally.
Resident Joy Gosz has been active in the community for many years, and decided to set up Karma with neighbours after recognising a need for such a support group to exist.
She said: “We need a group that is going to support women when they need it. Karma has been set up to make a difference, to show women that there are people out there who care.
This is a new inclusive group for all women.”
The group will provide members with opportunities to take part in training courses such as First Aid and workshops that build self-esteem. Karma will also host social events and day trips.
The grant of £600 has been given to the group thanks to Peasedown Councillor Nathan Hartley and his Ward Councillor’s Initiative Fund. He commented: “Karma is a group that has the potential to help so many women. After Joy came to me asking for support it was obvious that this new group met the criteria for the grant – due to its community links.”
Cllr Hartley has also been successful in pairing Karma up with Sirona, the new social care and heath social enterprise. He continued:
“Karma also wants to support local children who have ADHD, autism, cerebral palsy and learning disabilities and so will be working with Sirona to provide protac blankets. The product is a sensory stimulation that’s filled with loose balls, and creates muscle and joint sensations. This leads to an improved body awareness and a feeling of calmness.”
Karma meets weekly at Peasedown Youth Centre and is open to all women. For more details contact Joy Gosz on 07895 572411.
The name Karma was chosen to reflect the group’s desire to care and reach out to all women.
