As part of Real Nappy Week, there will be a ‘Nappacino’ morning on Wednesday 18 April 2012 where new and expectant parents can find out more about using reusable nappies.
The Council’s Senior Waste Campaigns Officer, Sarah George has been using them with her son for the past two years. She will be bringing him along to talk about her experience of using a variety of reusable nappies, including home-made ones.
Reusable nappies can save money and be kinder to the environment than using disposable nappies. Sarah will explain how you can use reusable nappies to reduce your impact on the environment. She will offer tips on how to get great second hand nappies for very little money or even for free. She will even share ideas on how you can save money once you have them.
Vanessa Emanuel of Wiltshire Nappies will also be demonstrating how to use a range of reusable nappies, which parents will have the option to purchase on the day.
Councillor David Dixon (Lib-Dem, Oldfield), Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said, “Real Nappy Week is an important opportunity to promote reusable nappies. Disposable nappies can make up a significant part of the waste that the average young family throws away. By choosing to use reusable nappies instead, we can reduce the amount that we throw away and the amount of rubbish that ultimately gets sent to landfill.”
Any new or expectant parent or health professional is very welcome to come along to the Nappacino which will be held at the Community @67 Centre, 67 Queens Rd, Keynsham BS31 2NW from 10 -11.30am on Wednesday 18 April. Free refreshments will be provided and children are very welcome.
