An adult and three children had their smoke alarm and neighbours to thank after they were rescued from a smoke-filled house in Southdown on Thursday evening.
Three fire engines were called to the property in Blagdon Park at 9.55pm, where neighbours had heard smoke alarms sounding. After residents made a check of the house, a burning pan was spotted through a kitchen window prompting the 999 call.
Crews from both Bath and Brislington were sent to the incident, and once on scene, firefighters in breathing apparatus set about gaining entry to the house which was thought to be empty. However following a search of the home an adult male and three children aged 10, five and three were found in upstairs bedrooms.
The crews were able to rouse the four people before leading them safely from the house. All four were treated on scene by paramedics and firefighters for the effects of smoke inhalation. None needed hospital treatment.
The incident had been caused by a pan left on the hob, filling the entire property with smoke. Fortunately the presence of the smoke alarm alerted the neighbours to the fire, whose quick actions led to the safe rescue of all four people.
