Police arrested four people in a series of early morning drugs warrants yesterday in an operation centred on cutting crime and drug dealing at one of the Bath’s nightclubs, the BlueRooms.
The four arrested are being held for questioning at Bath’s Manvers Street police station. No-one has yet been charged and a quantity of goods thought to be drugs, discovered during the warrants, is being analysed.
District Commander Chief Supt Geoff Spicer said: “This is another good day for policing in Bath. We aimed to dismantle and destroy serious crime groups and this action will certainly make a difference.“
Officers and BANES council officials will now take action against the licence holder of the Blue Rooms for alleged breaches of its licence, which could result in the club being closed.
Yesterday’s police operation follows a covert two-month investigation at the BlueRooms into alleged drug dealing, mobile phone and purse thefts, drink spiking, assault and criminal damage.
In the past six months, to the end of December 2012, there were 33 offences reported at the Blue Rooms. Police say that, over that period, one third of all violent offences in Bath’s nightclubs happened at the Blue Rooms. There have also been a number of serious public order incidents involving large intoxicated groups of men leaving the club, with several arrests and hospital admissions.
Det Insp Janice Pearson, heading yesterday’s operation, said: “Our aim was to destroy crime groups affecting people in Bath and north east Somerset and to arrest, prosecute and convict people supplying controlled drugs.
“Today’s action sends out a strong message that police are working around the clock, in uniform and undercover, to bring offenders to justice and make Bath a safer place to live and work.“
