The Beacon Hall Lunch Club in Peasedown St John are celebrating this week after receiving an early Christmas present from a group of festival organisers – in the form of £50 towards their Christmas lunch.
The money was donated as part of the village’s Party in the Park Grant Fund, which was set up two years ago to support community groups in Peasedown St John.
Since 2009, The Party in the Park Grant fund has awarded funding to:
- Laurel Farm Kindergarten
- Peasedown St John Scouts
- Peasedown Community Farm
- Peasedown Methodist Church
- Mike Sexton from the Explorer Scouts
- Peasedown St John Children’s Centre
When the first ever Party in the Park started to be planned organisers decided that some of the money raised on the day would be set aside for local projects and groups to apply for – so that Party in the Park really would be a benefit to the community.
Pam Wright, who for the last ten years has organised weekly lunch clubs for pensioners at Beacon Hall, said: “This money will go towards our special Christmas Lunch and we are very grateful for the support we have received from Party in the Park.”
Party in the Park Treasurer Joy Fraser, who presented the cheque to the Lunch Club on Monday along with fellow organiser Mike Auton, added:
“The underlying thread that unites all the Party in the Park team is our belief in supporting the community at a grassroots level. Therefore, as well as organising a summer event we also want to do things for the community all year round.
“When the Beacon Hall Lunch Club came to us asking for support for their Christmas lunch we were only too happen to help.”
Organisers have now started to plan next year’s event, which will be held on Beacon Field during the summer. More details will be released in early 2012, but plans already include live music, a trip down memory lane with a look at Peasedown in the 1950’s, the Sara Holley Community Award and much more.
