Farmers’ Markets Wanted For Peasedown

A community group in the village of Peasedown St John wants to see a central amenity used more often for events and organised activities.

Beacon Field is located between the newer housing developments surrounding Orchard Way, built in the 1990’s, and the older traditional village with its mining history.

Peasedown 1st would like more people, organisations and other groups to make better use of Beacon Field. The field is in the centre of Peasedown St John and is already used for children’s play, dog walking and summer events such as the Party in the Park.

However, campaigning resident Becci McCafferty thinks it has the potential to be much more. ‘Ideally, we could see a regular Farmers’ Market here, or car boot sales and antique fairs.’ The group would like to see a large range of attractions on Beacon Field that would not only serve the village, but bring visitors in who would use local services.

Kenny Torr, a former volunteer at Peasedown Youth Centre and aspiring community worker said he would like to see a variety of events. ‘Dog shows, sports days and even ‘It’s a Knock Out’ style events that would appeal to everyone.’

Peasedown 1st would like to hear from local people about what they think. Should Beacon Field be used more often? Would you attend events there if they were organised? Anyone can submit their views by emailing [email protected] or by visiting www.peasedown1st.org.uk
