Dramatic Boat Rescue After Heavy Rain

Avon Fire and Rescue came to the aid of four people on a narrow boat in Widcombe last night as the bad weather that Bath experienced caused rising water to enter the vessel.

After the call for help at 21.07pm, the Fire Brigade sent two crews with the rescue boat to the scene and upon arrival found seven inches of water already inside the boat.

The four people, two in their 40s and two in their 30s, who had been on board at the time were able to get to safety and were unharmed after the drama.

The fire crews used specialist pumping equipment to remove the water, as the boat was unable to move under its own power. They also assisted in raising the boat to prevent further water getting in.

The Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service, also attended the incident to assist those on board with advice and temporary accommodation.
