Time is running out to book tickets for a special event celebrating the history of timekeeping at the Pump Room.
To coincide with the annual ritual of putting the clocks forward an hour for British Summer Time, the Pump Room will be serving up a two course breakfast with a talk about its world-famous Tompion clock, from 9am-11am on Easter Sunday (31st March).
Thomas Tompion (1639–1713), widely regarded as the father of English clock making, made the clock for the Pump Room in 1709 and it is still in working order today.
The “Time for Tompion” talk will include a demonstration of the workings of Tompion’s clock and its relationship to the nearby sundial in the Pump Room, Bath.
The event is presented by Stephen Clews, Manager of the Roman Baths & Pump Room, who has been responsible for this famous clock since 1989.
He said: “This specialist talk will be a treat for anyone interested in British history, antiques, clock-making or the science of timekeeping. It takes place in the elegant and comfortable surroundings of Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Pump Room over a delicious two-course breakfast, so it’s well worth taking the time to come along and enjoy!”
