A new wider cycle and pedestrian path along the northern footway of the A4 dual carriageway and on the eastern side of the A39 from the Globe roundabout to the entrance to Bath Spa University has been completed.

The path for people who use bicycles and who walk has been completed as part of the Council’s plans to improve cycle links across the district.
Councillor Roger Symonds (Lib-Dem, Combe Down), Cabinet Member for Transport, said, “People can now cycle much more safety and conveniently between Bath Spa University and the city centre, particularly cycling students who’d rather use sustainable transport than their private car.
“It is really important that Bath & North East Somerset Council supports initiatives that create the right environment for people to take the option of using their bikes or legs to get the destination. This year, we will be investing half a million pounds to improve our cycling network.”
Access to the route, which is on the north side of the A4 Bristol Road between the Globe roundabout and the junction of the A4 Bristol Road / A36 Lower Bristol Road, will also benefit from a proposed ramp going down to the Railway path and a signal controlled crossing at the Globe roundabout.
It is anticipated that these will be delivered over the next two years.
Carolyn Puddicombe, Director of Estates at Bath Spa University, said, “Staff, students, and the wider community will benefit from this excellent new cycle path, which the University has been pleased to help fund and work with the Council to see it delivered. The University encourages sustainable methods of getting to and from the campus, so we are really pleased that this initiative is now complete.”
Councillor Will Sandry, Chair of the Student Community Partnership, added, “Enhancing the links for pedestrians and cyclists between the main Bath Spa Campus and the City helps in us reduce the need for students to bring their own car to the City and promotes healthy lifestyles.”
The work is funded through the Local Sustainable Transport Fund and involves several local Councils, including Bath & North East Somerset, working with the Department for Transport.
