An appeal on Crimewatch has been successful in following up an appeal by Avon and Somerset Police after a man was violently attacked in Southgate on Valentine’s Day in February.
At around 2.45am on the morning of the 14th February, the man was attacked as he made his way across Southgate Place.
CCTV shows his attacker walking across the square where he encounters the victim. The attacker is immediately aggressive pushing the victim and poking him the chest.
The 23-year-old victim is impassive and keeps his hands in his pockets during the whole incident.
As the men appear to argue they are joined by two other men.
The disagreement escalates with the attacker grabbing the victim around the face before punching him hard in the head. The victim is immediately knocked unconscious. His head hits the ground and he suffered a serious wound to the back of the head.
As he lies limp on the floor his attacker grabs his arm and pulls him up in what looks like an attempt to revive him. The attacker hangs around but makes off when a Southgate security guard appears.
A 23 year old traveled from Oldham in Manchester to Bath at 1am this morning to hand himself in over this incident and he is currently being questioned on suspicion of assault.
