Avon Fire and Rescue had a marathon of a task on Sunday when they were called to assist in the rescue of an elderly woman who had fallen down a flight of steps in Pulteney Street during the Bath Half Marathon.
Arriving at 13.40, the crews were called to assist paramedics at the basement flat which could only be accessed via Great Pulteney Street, where the start and finish point for the race was.
Members of the public and the runners had to make way for the pump and rescue tenders from Bath Fire Station to make its way to the incident.
On arrival crews gave an injured woman oxygen therapy after which they then worked with paramedics to assist the woman in her 80s on to a spinal board. She was then carried to a waiting ambulance and taken to hospital suffering from a suspected dislocated hip.
It’s thought she had been there for around three hours before the alarm was raised.
