A creative writing group from Twerton in Bath will be performing its work for the first time this month.
Work produced by the group, including poetry and short stories, will be exhibited and performed at the Twerton Time Bank open afternoon and lunch on Tuesday, April 17, at Southdown Methodist Church, The Hollow, Southdown.
This social event, which runs from 12 noon to 2pm, is open to everyone and is being organised by Twerton Time Bank, a local voluntary organisation which organises volunteer opportunities and encourages community involvement . The exhibitions and performances from the creative writing group are just some of the activities that will run on the day.
The Twerton creative writing group was set up with funding from the Cultural Olympiad, which provided £500 grants to community groups to run arts projects celebrating the Olympics.
Cllr David Dixon (Lib-Dem, Oldfield), Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “Bath & North East Somerset Council is committed to supporting strong and vibrant communities. This creative writing project in Twerton is a great example of working with a community to develop new skills and to create something special to celebrate the year of the Olympics.”
The group is led by local librarian June Wentland, who explained: “So far the work of the group has been inspired by the river Avon which runs alongside Twerton. Members have created some fantastic pieces of work and they’re really looking forward to performing at the community event. The project also encourages everyone in the community to get writing and to tell us their stories.”
The group will is also organising a Murder Mystery River Walk in June; more details will be published nearer the time.
