Council Update On London Road Work

The Council say substantial progress is being made on improvements to the A4 London Road at the Morrison’s junction.

The works are part of the £27 million Bath Transportation Package which is upgrading the city’s transport system to tackle congestion and provide the infrastructure necessary to support new homes and jobs.

So far:

• Existing traffic islands were removed, and replacements constructed to accommodate the new junction design;
• New undergrounding ducting was installed for the upgraded traffic signals;
• Improvements to the pedestrian footway on the northern side of the junction have commenced.

Following feedback from residents and local councillors, the renewal of the footway has been extended further to the junction with Hanover Street, tackling the current problem with surface water and ponding.

Over the weekend, resurfacing took place on the London Road. Night working will be continuing in order to complete the project in the shortest possible time.

On Easter Sunday, the assigned signal contractor will commence removing the old signals. Temporary three-way signals will need to be used at the junction for up to five days until the new signals are working. B&NES Council are thanking drivers for their patience whilst these signal improvements are carried out.

The Council is working with their contractor to ensure that they work extended shifts and complete the installation as quickly as possible. For safety, they will be using pedestrian marshals during the day to help those crossing the road, with a temporary pedestrian crossing in place at night or out of working hours.

Work is due to complete in mid-April 2013.
