City of Bath College will be hosting the Bath Skills Fair on March 7th – one of the south west’s biggest events for young people looking for essential information and advice on their career and education choices.
Visitors to the Skills Fair will have the chance to meet up with a range of leading local and national employers looking to recruit young people to apprenticeships or school leaver programmes.
Companies including Rotork, Airbus and the Ministry of Defence have already signed up to attend as they look to recruit more apprentices.
Young people worried about the costs involved with studying for a university degree can meet with companies who could cover the costs of their studies. Top UK businesses including accountants KPMG and Deloitte and Barclays bank will be among the companies attending the Skills Fair to promote their popular school leaver schemes.
The schemes, which recruit 18 year olds from College or school, offer students the chance to gain a university degree and professional qualifications while working, learning important on-the-job skills at the same time as studying. In some cases, the companies also offer a generous trainee salary.
Wessex Water will also be at the Bath Skills Fair as they look to recruit ambitious and motivated young people to their construction technician development programme, which starts in September 2012.
Not Going to Uni will be in attendance, promoting advanced apprenticeships and trainee programmes for a range of areas including retail management, IT, accountancy and business.
Visitors to the event will be able to find out more about what City of Bath College can offer them, including Higher Education study in partnership with leading local universities and a range of Advanced Apprenticeships – targeted at those learners who have completed A-levels or Level 3 vocational courses.
The University of Bath will be at the Skills Fair to talk about foundation degrees, JHP will be promoting their apprenticeships and Norton Radstock College will have a wide range of information on the courses they provide.
There will be a number of top competitions taking place, including the chance to win a fourth generation iPod touch, as well as a range of interactive, hands-on attractions including a mobile climbing wall, the Army’s ‘Batak Challenge’ and ping pong.
Visitors will also be able to try stone carving, carpentry and bricklaying, have their hair styled and enjoy a manicure or reflexology session from beauty and complementary therapy students.
There will be music from BA1 Records acts, street theatre and catering students will be running a hot dog stand.
Matt Atkinson, City of Bath College Principal, said: “The first Bath Skills Fair event was a massive success, with hundreds of young people from Bath and beyond visiting City of Bath College to get important advice on their next steps in education or work.
“I’m confident that this year’s event will be just as successful. I’m particularly encouraged by the number of major employers attending the event to recruit young people to apprenticeships or school leaver schemes.
“Whether you are looking to study at college, university or find work, the Bath Skills Fair is an event you cannot afford to miss.”
