Clampdown On Bath Trade Waste Litter

Action on businesses that are ignoring trade waste presentation times and contributing towards litter being strewn across city centre streets has been taken by the Council.

Thirty-six businesses in Bath city centre have been given final warnings, 4 Legal Notices were served for those that ignored the final warning, and 4 Fixed Penalty Notices of £100 were served for breaches of legislation.

Officers are preparing to prosecute 2 businesses following a series of sunrise inspections during April to ensure trade waste is being put out at agreed times.

Councillor David Dixon (Lib-Dem, Oldfield), Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said, “Feedback from residents and visitors to Bath & North East Somerset Council is very clear. They want to see clean streets. A business putting out their trade waste at the wrong time undermines the community’s efforts to achieve this.

“Litter and food lying around become instant targets for animals such as gulls scavenging for food or people looking to cause mischief, and the torn open bags have to be cleaned up by our cleansing operatives.

“The Council has been really clear to businesses about the expectations of the community. Ignoring us will result in being hit in the pocket or taken to court. The message is simple – put your trade waste out at the agreed times.”

Traders can find out more about the Council’s trade waste enforcement arrangements by contacting Council Connect via [email protected] or 01225 39 40 41.
