Churches in Peasedown St John have decided to cancel all services on Sunday 3rd June, and instead hold one civic event to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of The Queen.
As part of the village-wide celebrations happening between 2nd – 5th June, Peasedown Churches Together will host their Big Jubilee Service.
Leading the event will be Revd Matthew Street, the Vicar of St Johns’ Church. He said: “This is a ‘diamond’ opportunity for people to come and celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee. For 60 years, she has led the country and the Church of England with humility. Her service is something we want to recognise and give thanks to God for.
“Our Peasedown Churches Together civic event will be based on the national Big Jubilee Service that will be held in St Paul’s Cathedral on 5th June.”
Readings will be said by Cllr Neil Hopkins, Chairman of Peasedown Parish Council, and Cllr Nathan Hartley, B&NES Deputy Leader and councillor for Peasedown St John.
Members of St Josephs Catholic Church, Peasedown Methodist Church and St John’s Parish Council will all be taking part.
The Diamond Jubilee Civic Service will start at 10.15am, on Sunday 3rd June in St John’s Parish Church, Church Road.
Revd Street added: “Everyone is welcome to join us for this special occasion.”
The event will be part of a whole weekend of Jubilee celebrations in the village, including:
Jubilee Breakfast – Peasedown Methodist Church, 9.30am-12noon, Sat 2nd June
Jubilee Exhibition – Beacon Hall, 2pm – 6pm, Sat 2nd June
