Over £1,000 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support in Peasedown St John last Saturday night thanks to a group of residents who decided to do that little bit extra for charity.
The fundraising event was held at the Waggon and Horses Inn, and saw body-waxing, fun and games, fancy dress and three brave fundraisers run 3 miles in freezing cold conditions wearing nothing but mankinis.
Made popular by Sacha Baron Cohen in the film Borat, mankinis leave very little to the imagination.
Chaz Fisher, Kenny Torr and Richard Smith, from Peasedown St John, collected sponsorship for several weeks in the run up to the evening, all of which will contribute to the work being doing my Macmillan to support those diagnosed with cancer.
Nineteen-year-old Chaz said: “Cancer is a horrible illness that ruins lives. Any money that can be raised to support charities such as Macmillan is welcomed.
“It was absolutely freezing running around Peasedown in just a mankini – but when you think of what those people go through who have lost a family member to cancer, I’d do this every night of the week!”
Others decided not to bear all for charity – but just the upper half! Four people went through a toughening 20 minutes of chest waxing all in aid of raising extra cash.
Waggon and Horses Landlady, Wendy Burke, added: “What a fantastic night! Thank you to Chaz, Kenny and Rich for the sponsored mankini run. Thank you to Wes, George, Lewis and Craig for the sponsored chest waxing and Siobhan for her sponsored fancy dress. Between them all it looks like they have raised in excess of £1,000. Thank you seems to be inadequate for the commitment they have shown for the support of this worthy cause.”
